Position:  Worship & Music Coordinator
Reports to: Pastor & Personnel Team
Status: Part-time, 4 hours per week
FLSA: Exempt


JOB SUMMARY:
The Worship & Music Coordinator is responsible for developing congregational song. This is a part-time position that involves planning, coordinating, and leading worship services at Rejoice Lutheran Church. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of liturgical practice and a passion for creating meaningful and engaging worship experiences for the congregation, allowing the people of Rejoice to engage in its mission of proclaiming Christ in music.

A person, who is relational, with an open, flexible and positive attitude, a self-starter, assertive, and who is committed to excellence. A clear understanding of Rejoice’s mission is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Worship Planning and Coordination:

  • Plan and coordinate weekly and other special worship services with pastoral staff and lay musicians, including scheduling, music selection and rehearsal.

  • Participate in and lead monthly worship team meetings in conjunction with the pastor.

Music Leadership:

  • Develop and lead congregational singing, including selecting appropriate hymns and other music that honors existing congregational repertoire and also seeks to expand it.

  • Work with pastoral staff to develop a music program for the church, including music for special services and other events.

  • Explore and incorporate a variety of musical styles into worship services.

  • As schedule permits, be available for accompaniment in weddings and funerals with added honorariums.  

  • Recruit and lead lay musicians in support of weekly worship and other special worship opportunities. 

Congregational Engagement:

  • Encourage and support congregational participation in music and worship.

  • Provide opportunities for individuals and groups to share their musical talents.

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who participate in music ministry.

Administrative Duties:

  • Provide music selection timely to office staff to prepare for weekly worship, including copyright information.

  • Manage the music budget and other resources.

  • Maintain equipment and inventory.

  • Schedule rehearsals and performances, as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with the pastor, staff, and congregation.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in leading congregational song. Demonstrated knowledge of liturgy, liturgical practices, with a preferable basic understanding of Lutheran theology.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in playing a musical instrument. Vocal skills are a plus. 

  • Ability to lead, direct, and delegate where needed.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team within the constraints of a part-time schedule.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Commitment to Christian faith and service.

  • Although a Bachelor’s degree in music or a related field is preferred, the education requirement may be substituted with prior music and worship experience.

 

 

EVALUATION AND COMPENSATION: 
The music coordinator reports directly to the pastor and receives an annual performance evaluation, along with regular feedback on job performance.  Compensation is an hourly amount and will be reviewed annually, commensurate with experience and performance.  This is an at-will position and can be terminated at any time by either party without cause.

  • Part time, up to 4 hours/week

  • Compensation to start $20/hour or more based on experience. (This does not include additional compensation for accompanying weekly worship services.) 

  • Reimbursement for business mileage according to the IRS standard rate.

  • Performance review after 6 months.
